What Does a Sump Pump Do?
December 5th, 2011 | Posted by in pump motor
In places where you have an apartment, house, or other structure that’s basement sits below the water table, a sump pump is used to remove water from where it doesn’t belong. A sump basin is a low point in the floor where water and potentially other unwanted liquid such as chemicals can collect. A sump pump works to get rid of this.
There are two different kinds of pumps. One is called a pedestal and one is submersible. The pedestal pump is mounted above the sump basin where it can be more easily accessible for sump pump repair and the submersible is, well, submerged, below the sump.
Most places where the water table is high, have sump pumps and backup systems just in case something should happen that the first needs to be serviced. Reasons you might need to call a NY sump pump repair shop could be clogs, loss of power, or lack of suction.
These things can sometimes be easily avoided by regular maintenance. If you have a sump pump in your home, you can clean it and clear it of debris like sand, dirt, and gravel. You should also check the discharge line for any obstructions that might cause your pump not to function properly.
